Intro to Modular Knitting - 08 Jun

£50.00

Saturday 8th June 2024, 10-4pm

Bethania Community Centre, Glynneath, SA11 5DA

Bookings for this workshop will close on Fri 24 May

Modular knitting, sometimes referred to as Domino knitting, is the process of knitting small individual pieces that are joined together to create unique garments or other projects – a bit like patchwork but without all the sewing up. This technique allows you to design as you go along, and to work creatively with colour without the challenges posed by more traditional methods of colour work. It is also great for using up your stash, even the odds and ends.

On the day you’ll get to play with creating a number of swatches using these techniques. You’ll be shown how your knitted swatches can be easily developed into a project, such as a cushion, and advice given on construction and finishing.

You’ll need to bring:

  • 4mm (UK 8, US6) knitting needles - double pointed or shorter if you have them are most useful, but any style of needles will be just fine

  • A notebook, ruler and pencil

  • A pair of scissors.

  • Stitch Markers  (optional)

It is also useful to bring along any colourful photos, postcards or magazine cuttings to inspire you with your choice and combinations of colour.

Provided for you:

  • full tuition

  • Yarn will be provided, but do feel free to bring along any additional yarns of your own to use, share or swap.

  • a workshop pack containing training materials and a free pattern

Light refreshments are  also provided. A meal and any additional snacks can be purchased from nearby shops, or you may prefer to bring your own packed lunch.

This workshop is suitable for all levels of knitters who can knit and purl, and can follow a basic pattern. It is intended for those new to modular knitting, or knitters wanting to refresh these skills, and advanced techniques will not be covered.

Max 14 places available. Where numbers exceed 8, a support tutor will also be available to ensure all participants are fully supported throughout the session.

The venue is accessible to individuals with difficulties relating to mobility. It is important to me that you have a relaxed and enjoyable day so please contact me if you have any questions or particular requirements.
